Take a walk on the wild side with Sri Lanka's natural wealth of animal life - 86 species of mammals, 16 endemic, which can be viewed in a variety of national parks and sanctuaries. Among the most accessible are Yala, Udawalawe, Horton Plains, Sinharaja, Wasgamuwa, Minneriya and Randenigala, where herds of elephant, sambur, wild buffalo, leopard, sloth bear and hundreds more can be seen roaming around amidst the jungle wildernesses and shrub cover. At the Elephant Orphanage at Pinnawela, elephants displaced from their wild habitat are fostered tenderly by attendants, and adored by all who pass by.
